INTRODUCTION
Korean 2 is an upper novice/lower intermediate module for students who passed LAK1201 (Korean 1) at
NUS, or passed a placement test for Korean 2. This course is designed in a blended learning mode, further
adopted flipped classroom. Therefore, studying an eLecture is significant in equipping students with
required knowledge for activities in class, so that students would understand what to expect in coming
lectures.
Regarding contents, we will introduce vocabularies and functions in talking about jobs, transport,
direction, weather, food, party, sports, shopping, gathering, and phone-conversation. Proposed topics are
everyday life based, hence extremely frequent in everyday conversation to make it useful and practical.
Further, I will proceed to the next level of handling those topics by inviting additional activities. In other
words, students are expected to make use of knowledge achieved from the books and lectures in more
authentic situations. The course will provide venues to practise on above topics and functions, and the
assessments to evaluate the achievement of the aim.
At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve independent and enhance
autonomous learning strategy so that they can continue to learn Korean independently in and out of
classroom.

CONTINUAL ASSESSMENT (100%)
Please refer to the SEMESTER SCHEDULE for the assessment schedule of the semester. You are
responsible to be physically available for each test.
i. Class participation (10%)
Korean 2 is a flipped classroom module, meaning that there will be overview of the coming lectures
through eLecture-medium usually a week before. You are expected to study eLecture to prepare yourself
for in-class lectures to participate in activities based on your understanding of the content made prior to
the lesson. Therefore, Preparedness for discussion and practice in the class over the semester will be
seriously graded. This considers how much engagement there is with your peers, how well prepared you
come to each session, how active a role you play in the class activities, how your contributions advance
the level and depth of the dialogue, and the general impact your presence has on the class.

ii. Tests (50%)
We have two written tests in the class, Mid-term test on the second lecture of Week 6 (21 February,
Friday, 2 time slots) and Final-test on the second lecture of Week 13 (17 April, Friday, 2 time slots). There
is NO MAKE-UP TEST for the test strictly. Detailed test information such as number or type of questions
will be announced near the date.
iii. Weekly Self-Reflection Note (10%)
This is a submission-based assessment, meaning linguistic mistakes are not counted for a grade. Weekly
reflection note must be summited on the immediate following Lecture. For instance, the reflection of
Lecture1 of Week2 must be submitted on Lecture2 of Week2. This assessment is to help learners to revise
the lecture timely, so that knowledge lasts longer and understanding is verified to further revise.
iv. Oral Test (15%)
It will be one passage reading test on Week 6, and one 10-minute long individual interview on Week 9,
answering for questions. During the second oral test, each student will have five questions covering
previously discussed topics from Chapter 1-11. The speaking skill, comprehension skill, and language
performance are assessed.
v. Assignments (15%)
There will be TWO assignments (400-450 syllable long) throughout the semester. Most of the time,
assignments reflect what we covered during the class so that they reflect what you have achieved and
how much you understood the lesson. A week will be given to submit the complete work after the topic is
released. Language performance, content information, and structure in sentence level and discourse level
are assessed in this assessment.
