Although the English and French have identical alphabets, the
characters do not always represent the same sound in both languages.
There are 26 scripted letters in the modern French alphabet but
there are at least 38 phonic sounds.
French is phonetic but the rules are not the ones we are used to.
FRENCH VOWELS
a, à, ah Between ‘a’ in hat and ‘a’ in father

e, è, eh Like ‘e’ in get

When the ‘e ‘ is a neutral vowel (also known as Schwa)
Je - Like ‘s’ in pleasure

(round your lips to say ‘oo’ then try to say ‘ee”)
NASAL VOWELS
When a,e,I,o,u is followed by a single ‘n’ or ‘m’ the vowel is
nasalized. The vowel is pronounced simultaneously through
the mouth and nose – more of a vibration than
distinguishable sound.
