What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy provides practical support to
empower people to recover and overcome barriers
preventing them from doing the activities that matter to
them. (Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
Occupational Therapy focuses on the activities you do
every day that are important to you.
Occupational Therapists can work with you using
activity to help you achieve your goals, where
possible improving mental health wellbeing and
increased independence.
Occupational Therapy is most effective when we work
together
Occupational Therapists work in partnership with you
to support recovery and improve your quality of life.
Sessions may take place in your home, hospital, clinic,
community or workplace setting depending on your
needs and may be individual or in a group.
Occupational Therapists work alongside a range of
health and social care professionals and can involve
these services in your treatment if it will help you.
What happens after referral?
You can expect an Occupational Therapist to contact
you to arrange an assessment.
We will work with you to identify your strengths
and difficulties and how this impacts on your daily
activities.
If any interventions are required an appropriate plan
will be devised with you.
Progress will be reviewed regularly with you to
identify continuing need for Occupational Therapy.
We will work with you to consider your mental
psychological, emotional needs and physical health,
within your own situation.
