Medical Spanish Program
Student led Medical Spanish courses are an opportunity for medical students to begin or continue developing
their Spanish conversation skills with a strong emphasis on medical vocabulary and the patient encounter.
Classes meet for an hour once a week during the academic year and are led by other medical students.
Who teaches these classes?
Medical students with advanced speaking
skills peer-teach the courses in teams of
two or three. Interviews for students
interested in teaching positions are
conducted in Spanish at the beginning of
the academic year. Students who teach in
the program are eligible to receive two
weeks of elective teaching credit on their
medical school transcript!
Who participates?
Any medical student at Stritch is welcome to
participate in the program, from native
Spanish speakers to students with no
foreign language background. The courses
are designed to meet students at their
current language skill level, whether fluent
or brand-new to Spanish!
On average, about 120 first and second year
medical students participate in the program each
year.
