About the course
In view of accelerating rate of diet related diseases (non‐communicable diseases as well as under nutrition), there is
increasing need of high quality evidence on diet and lifestyle exposures. In India, Nutrition epidemiology is a budding
discipline and requires capacity building and skill development. This training programme aims to build the capacity
of young health professionals and researchers who wish to work in this area or develop career in nutrition research.
The workshop proposes to cover key issues in design, analysis and reporting of nutrition epidemiological studies and
provide grounding in the knowledge and skills related that are require to conduct nutrition epidemiological studies.
Contents
• Introduction to nutrition epidemiology: principles and importance
• Designing nutrition epidemiology studies: research designs and methodological considerations
• Assessment methods of diet, anthropometry and physical activity
• Problem of measurement error in nutrition studies and approaches to deal with it
• Processing and analysis of dietary data
• Ethics in nutrition research
• Critical appraisal of published studies
Key Resource Faculty
Dr Jyoti Sharma is the key resource faculty for this workshop. She is a full-time faculty at the institute with formal
training in Food Science and Nutrition and Epidemiology. She has around 15 years of experience in the field of
Nutrition and public health research. Dr Jyoti is involved in academic programs at the institute and has the experience
of having conducted several workshop for health professionals of diverse background.
Who should attend?
This workshop would be suitable for faculty members and researchers engaged in research and teaching in area of
public health and nutrition, NGO and international organizations responsible for managing research projects,
nutritionists and dietitians, researchers, doctoral and post graduate students.
Registration Fee
Indian National: 8000 INR per participant
International Participant: 16000 INR per participant
The registration fee includes course kit, lunch and snacks. Please note that the participants will have to bear their
own travel, boarding and lodging expenses. However; the organizers will be able to provide a list of hotels or
guesthouses nearby the institute upon request.
