Change Management in Higher Education –
Important?
A powerful combination of forces is bearing
down on higher education, from a rapid
increase in competition to technology-
driven changes in course delivery
methods, to significant decreases in
public funding. But beyond identifying
what needs to change, university leaders
must identify how to make change happen
in an intentional, strategic manner. What
are the unique challenges, opportunities,
and approaches to change management
at the University and in higher education
in general?

That was the vision laid out in
September, when the Georgia Institute
of Technology announced a new lab for
disruptive ideas, the Center for 21st
Century Universities (chronicle.com,
