General NSIDC Cloud Strategy
   • We’ve moved all ICESat-2 products into the cloud & provided early 
   access to a small subset of users
   • We’re still verifying the successful migration of all ICESat-2 data sets, 
   services, and customizations
   • Once verified, those data will be the first publicly released NSIDC DAAC 
   Cloud products
   • Additional missions (e.g. SMAP, MODIS) will follow over the next year
   • All missions will be accessible both from the Cloud and on-prem services 
   for the foreseeable future, but customization and service improvements 
   will be limited to the Cloud
              MODIS & VIIRS Schedule
   • MODIS Collection 6.1 is scheduled to move into the cloud in Quarter 3 
    of FY22
     – Approximately April – June 2022
     – Data will be held in the Cloud for verification of all services/customization options prior 
      to public release
   • VIIRS will migrate to the cloud after Collection 2 finishes reprocessing
     – Tentatively scheduled to move into the cloud in Quarter 1 of FY23 (October-December 
      2022)
     – Data will be held in the Cloud for verification of all services/customization options prior 
      to public release
   • Older Collections will move into the cloud after all other active missions 
    have successfully migrated (likely FY24 or later)
