ABSTRACT
ST. Nur Azizah. 2020 The Effectiveness Speed Reading toward Students’
Reading Comprehension at the Second Grade of MTsN Palopo (supervised by Sri
Damayanti and Suardi).
This research aims to find out the effectiveness speed reading toward students’
reading comprehension at the second grade of MTsN Palopo. In this research, the
researcher used pre-experimental research design. The population of this research
is second grade students of MTsN Palopo in 2019/2020 academy year. The
number of population is 380 students. The researcher used cluster sampling
technique in determining the sample. The researcher used reading test with ten
questions. The result of this research shows the use of speed reading toward
students’ reading comprehension at the second grade of MTsN Palopo. It was
strength by the mean score of students in the pretest and in the posttest. The mean
score of students in the pretest is 66.50 lower than the mean score of students in
the posttest 87.50. In addition, ∝ is higher than p-value (0.05>0.00). In the
significant test analysis, it indicates that null hypothesis is rejected and H is

accepted. It means that the implementation of speed reading is effective toward
students’ reading comprehension at the second grade of MTsN Palopo.
